"Every Black woman deserves to leave the exam room feeling heard, informed, and in control — regardless of education or income."

Why We Exist

Amplify Noire was founded after a pattern became impossible to ignore: friends and family were walking out of medical appointments feeling dismissed — not because they lacked education or resources, but because they lacked the specific tools healthcare spaces require.

Founded by Makeda Black, RN — a Registered Nurse and Public Health Nurse Specialist with 12 years in communicable disease and immunization — Amplify Noire is built on one truth: knowledge is not enough. You need language, strategy, and the confidence to use both.

We are here to close that gap.

Meet the Founder

Makeda Black, RN

Makeda is a Registered Nurse and Public Health Nurse Specialist with over 12 years of clinical experience in communicable disease and immunization. She has sat across from patients in the most vulnerable moments of their lives — and she has watched, again and again, as brilliant women walked out of appointments without the answers they came for.

She founded Amplify Noire not as a side project, but as a mission: to equip Black women with a practical, tested methodology for showing up powerfully in healthcare.

Her approach draws from clinical training, public health systems thinking, and deep community knowledge. Every tool she teaches, she has used.

How We Advocate

Six rights every patient holds.

These are not ideals. They are legal and ethical standards every healthcare provider must uphold — and that every patient deserves to know by name.

I

Be Heard

Your symptoms, concerns, and experiences deserve attention and documentation. "I want to make sure this is in my chart today."

II

Informed Consent

You have the right to understand every procedure, medication, and treatment before agreeing — in plain language, with time to decide.

III

Second Opinion

Seeking another perspective is not disloyalty. It is good medicine. Any provider who discourages it is worth questioning.

IV

Your Records

You own your health information. You can request, review, and correct your records — and providers must respond within a defined window.

V

Refuse Treatment

Informed refusal is as valid as informed consent. You may decline any treatment — and your provider must document and respect your decision.

VI

File a Complaint

When care falls short, you have channels — hospital patient advocates, state licensing boards, and federal agencies. Using them is not confrontation. It is accountability.

"I advocate for myself. I trust my body. I deserve to be heard."

The Amplify Method™ · Amplify Noire™

The SBAR Method

Speak the language of medicine.

SBAR is the communication framework used in clinical settings worldwide. Amplify Noire adapts it as a patient tool — so your provider hears exactly what you need them to hear, in the order they need to hear it.

S
Situation

State why you're there in one sentence. "I'm here because I've had persistent chest tightness for three weeks that hasn't improved with rest."

B
Background

Give relevant health history briefly. Prior diagnoses, medications, family history — only what is directly relevant to today's visit.

A
Assessment

Share what you believe is happening. "I'm concerned this may be related to my blood pressure." Your instincts are valid clinical data.

R
Request

Be specific about what you need today. "I'm requesting an EKG and a referral to cardiology." A clear ask is harder to dismiss.
